The Dialogic Forum for Inclusive and Sustainable Education (DFISE) is an emerging non-governmental organisation based in Bengaluru, India. DFISE is dedicated to promoting inclusive and sustainable educational practices across diverse domains, including science, technology, humanities, and vocational studies. Our initiatives cater to a broad spectrum of learning contexts, from formal and informal educational settings to workplace training programmes.
DFISE initiatives are characterised by unique teaching, learning, and assessment practices designed to harness, adapt to, and enrich the diverse capabilities of individuals, communities, and organisations, thereby fostering collective societal well-being. Inherent in these practices are the processes of identifying, supporting, and empowering those facing obstacles in their learning journey. Our aim is to ensure that everyone is empowered to overcome the challenges and realise their aspirations.
Under this initiative, higher-ed students are trained to systematically research emerging trends and workplace conditions within their field of study. Subsequently, they receive mentorship to design and implement related project-based learning activities in neighbourhood schools. This serves the dual purpose of enhancing employability and increasing awareness of career opportunities.
As part of this initiative, a range of organisations - including businesses, public sector entities, NGOs, and educational institutions - receive assistance in creating inclusive and sustainable learning environments that promote productive and continuous learning among their staff. The purpose is to foster organisational growth, resilience, and employee well-being.
We organize discussions with parents to both understand their concerns and challenges and to enhance their awareness of quality education indicators. Additionally, we equip parents with guidance and resources to help them establish mixed-age learning communities within their housing societies or neighbourhoods. These communities serve as self-help groups, offering support with assignments, project work, preparation for competitive exams, and more.
We study the inclusivity and sustainability of current educational practices and workplace training initiatives, employing a variety of research designs. To better inform related policies, we incorporate inputs from disadvantaged individuals, communities, and organisations. We then actively disseminate our findings for wider application and improvement. Additionally, we offer monitoring and evaluation services to those implementing inclusive and sustainable educational practices.
We view society as a complex web of diverse and interdependent human activities, acknowledging the profound interconnections between the well-being of individuals, communities, organisations, and society at large. We see every individual, community, and organisation as possessing several evolving capabilities that can be further nurtured and enhanced. Moreover, we believe that diverse individuals and a variety of human activities should have an equal chance of being represented in the curriculum, thereby offering an opportunity for their development and transformation.
We envision educational spaces as open to diverse ways of knowing, doing, and being, reflecting the complexity and richness of human life. We understand the importance of fostering both individual and collective competencies, nurturing competitive as well as cooperative attitudes, and preparing for both foreseeable and unforeseeable futures. We place immense value on equipping individuals, communities, and organisations to be responsive and resilient amidst the ever-changing landscape of society.
We are a team of individuals with diverse backgrounds in science, technology, and the humanities. Our team members have a decade of experience working in various sectors. Despite varied sectors, a shared concern for the common challenges faced by our education systems and organisations brought us together for this cause.
